We held our annual Open House last Saturday (9/27) and it was a big success! Dozens of families and prospective students toured our campus and picked up an application. If you didn’t make it to the Open House, you can get an application by mail. Contact Erin Berg in the Admissions Office at 774-6278 or eberg@pslservices.org
Here are some important things you should know if you’re planning to apply to STRIVE U this fall:
*The applications first become available at our Open House in late September. If you can’t make it, we can always mail you one.
*Your completed application must be returned to the Admissions Office by February 2, 2009
The Open House is set for Saturday, September 27th from 10am - 2pm on our Portland campus. You’ll get to learn more about the program, talk to staff, and check out the apartments. It’s a great way to see what STRIVE U is all about.

The Class of 2010 has arrived! Move-in Day was yesterday (7/13) and it was a pretty impressive event. The students and their families began arriving on campus just after Noon. The STRIVE U staff sprang into action… forming a chain of movers to get the students belongings into their apartments in record time. After everyone was settled and the students and their parents said their goodbyes… it was basketball and BBQ time!
Five incredible young men and women make up the Class of 2010. We’re looking forward to getting to know them!

The STRIVE U Class of 2008 graduated on Saturday (7/12)! It was a wonderful ceremony. The four students gave moving speeches about their experiences at STRIVE U and how the program has changed their lives. They were given STRIVE U diplomas and Certificates from the University of Southern Maine. Former Maine Governor Angus King was the commencement speaker and boy was he a crowd pleaser. His speech, titled “The Top Ten Things I Wish I Knew When I Graduated College”, was both informative and funny. STRIVE U also presented several community members, including Governor King, with honorary degrees.
We wish the Class of 2008 lots of luck and success! Don’t be strangers…
It’s getting pretty exciting around here. The STRIVE U Class of 2008 will receive their diplomas next month. Graduation day is set for July 12th. It’s being held at USM’s Hannaford Hall. The four soon-to-be graduates are busy wrapping things up and transitioning into their new lives. Each of them will give a speech right before receiving their diplomas. This year’s commecement speaker is Former Maine Governor Angus King. Governor King along with several other community members will be awarded honorary degrees.
A lot of people are really looking forward to graduation, and I am definitely one of them. This will be my first big event as a STRIVE U employee. I took over the role of Admissions Coordinator earlier this month and so far so good. If you have any questions about graduation or the admissions process, please feel free to contact the office.
So, here’s to the Class of 2008! Congratulations and good luck!

March 1st and 2nd are getting closer and closer! Are you ready to Dance All Night at the STRIVE Rocks Dance Marathon? This year looks to be our greatest yet! Winter was in full force on December 14th at STRIVE Night. The “Snow Ball” was a great night with special guest appearances by snow elves, Mrs. Frosty, Old Man Winter, and Jack Frost! Everyone looked great! There was gingerbread people to decorate, a hot chocolate station and a free holiday decoration station for folks to take items home! It was another awesome Friday night at STRIVE. Join us every Friday from 6-9pm. The next theme night will be on January 4th 2008 as we ring in the new year! Hope to see you there 
On Saturday, Dec. 1st, STRIVE held its kickoff party to the 2008 STRIVE Rocks Dance Marathon. This years Dance Marathon will be held March 1-2, 2008, at the USM Sullivan Gym. Lots of new things in store this year- you won’t want to miss the biggest event of the year!
At the kickoff party, over 100 dancers came by the STRIVE Center to pick up their pledge packets and dance (of course) to the great band “Five Foot Ficus”. A big thanks to both Five Foot Ficus and Demont and Associates for attending the kickoff and making the night a success!
